In the Nido, the youngest children spend time on the floor rather than in a bouncy seat or swing. Freedom of movement encourages children to feel confident with themselves while gaining interest in the world around them. Here, this student scoots forward to pull a basket of metal pots and pans off the shelf and explore how each object feels, looks, and sounds like when hit on the floor. When given the freedom to move, he is able to explore on his own and gains confidence in his abilities to move purposefully and reach a goal.
